Me Animation - Me Talking

Your next assignment is a fun one but can be a bit tricky. You are going to animate to give the impression that your character is talking. In order to do this you will need to use Fireworks to edit your images to get them ready to use. You will be working with both of your photographs: Mouth Open, Mouth Closed.

Just like we have done for your robot assignment, you will use FIREWORKS to open your photos and make necessary changes to make your images ready to Import to your Library to be used in a FLASH document. REMINDER: When you have an image ready to be saved for your FLASH animation be certain to save this file in FIREWORKS as a Adobe .swf file and then be certain that you Import the .swf file into your FLASH animation.

Below are some examples of student work.

Another way to animate a moving mouth is to take an image and add a mouth. In this case I have taken an image of King Henry the 8th and added a mouth. In addition, rather than just Mouth Closed, Mouth Open, I have added a mouth that is just starting to open.

To complete this assignment, do the following:

First, open one of your images in FIREWORKS. Next, make certain your image is oriented properly and is the correct size. To change orientation go to <Modify> <Transform>. You can change the size of your image by <Modify> <Canvas> <Image Size>. Be sure to crop the image and remove any background. Complete this image edit process for both of your images, Mouth Closed and Mouth Open.

Finally, when you are finished editing your image you will want to Select ALL the layers in your document, <Flatten Selection> then save your image as an Adobe Flash Movie file .swf file. This is the best file type for use in FLASH. Then you are ready to start FLASH.

Create a New FLASH Document and Import to the Library your image files. Remember, to get your files into your FLASH Library <Files> <Import> <Import to Library>. You can then drag and drop the images to the Frame you want them to appear. REMEMBER: YOU NEED TO IMPORT the .swf FILES.

Be certain to add a layer on top of all layers to put in a Text Balloon and Text. Since this animation will NOT HAVE SOUND, you need the Text Balloon(s) and Text to let the viewer know what you are saying.

Save your animation as file U: MeTalking
